Green Pea Apple Avocado Chaat

This modern take on chaat features green peas, apples and avocado in a tamarind-honey dressing! Dressed up with puffed rice and pickled radishes, it’s a simple, classy dish to spice up your arsenal of appetizers!

After visiting Rooh Chicago and trying their Avocado and Green Pea Bhel, I was so excited to come home and make my own version of it! I added two types of apples for a break in texture and some sweetness, potatoes and green peas for body, and avocados for creaminess!

Toss all of that in a sweet, chatpata tamarind-honey dressing — garnished with puffed rice and radish — and you’ve got the perfect summer appetizer!

Ingredients
Chaat:
  • 1 1/2 cup dried green peas (green hara vatana) , boiled with salt and turmeric until soft
  • 1 avocados , diced
  • 1 medium green apple , finely chopped, I used Granny Smith Apple
  • 1 medium red apple , finely chopped
  • 1 medium potatoes , boiled and diced
  • 1 tbsp cilantro , finely chopped
  • 1 small onions , finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies , finely chopped and to taste
  • 1 1/2 tsp sumac
  • 1 1/2 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 3 tbsp puffed rice - see my post on how to make puffed rice
  • salt , to taste
  • lemon juice , if needed
Tamarind-Honey Dressing:
  • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp , thick
  • 4 tbsp honey , more as needed
  • salt , to taste
  • black pepper , to taste
Garnish:
  • puffed rice
  • pickled radish
  • namkeen
  • herbed yogurt
Instructions
Chaat:
  1. In a bowl, mix together the green peas vatana, potatoes, avocado, apples, onion, puffed rice, green chilies, cilantro, sumac, chaat masala, red chili powder, salt, and lemon juice.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together your honey, tamarind pulp, salt, and pepper. Pour into the chaat and gently toss together until well combined. Adjust any seasonings to your taste.

  3. Garnish with puffed rice, pickled radish, and namkeen. Enjoy!
