Let’s be honest, everyone loves a good stir fry. This vegan version is super fragrant with star anise, cloves, and white pepper paired with soy sauce, chili paste, and worcestershire for a bit of tang. Garnish with some crunchy cashews and sesame seeds and you have yourself the most delicious and spicy weeknight meal that’s sure to be a hit!

Spicy Crispy Tofu - crisped to golden brown perfection and coated in a delicious sauce, this sweet, sour, and fiery tofu is here to satisfy all your spicy cravings! Paired with tender broccoli and fluffy jasmine rice, weeknight stir-frys have never been this easy!
- 1 package extra firm tofu
- 3 tbsp cornstarch , mixed with ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 star anise
- 3 cloves
- 4 dried red chilies
- 5 cloves garlic , minced
- 1 inch ginger , minced
- 1/2 cup shallots (onions) , finely chopped
- 1 cup broccoli , blanched
- 2 tbsp red chili paste
- 2 tbsp vegan worcestershire sauce
- 3 tbsp light soy sauce
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1½ tbsp honey
- 3/4 tsp white pepper
- 2 tsp cornstarch , mixed with 3 tbsp water
- salt , to taste
- 1 tbsp seasame seeds , more for garnish
- 3 tbsp cashews , or peanuts, crushed , more for garnish
- 2 thai red chilies , more for garnish
Drain and press your tofu in a kitchen towel for a few minutes to help remove excess water. Slice into cubes and then toss with your cornstarch and salt. Heat some oil in a pan and add in your coated tofu. Sauté for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown crispy. Set aside in a separate plate lined with a paper towel to absorb any extra oil.
In the same pan, add some more oil and add in your ginger, garlic, shallots, star anise, cloves, and dried red chilies. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
Now, add in your broccoli, chili paste, worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, honey, white pepper, cornstarch slurry, and salt. Saute for another 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu and broccoli.
Fold in your cashews, sesame seeds, thai chilies and your Crispy Spicy Tofu is ready! Garnish with some more cashews, sesame seeds, and chilies and enjoy!
